Premier Foods: Glanville Geospatial Deliver Multi‑Disciplinary Solution
Since late 2023 (and still ongoing), Glanville Geospatial have been assisting with the major development at Premier Foods Lifton Creamery by showcasing their diverse portfolio of services.
Due to the many different requirements for this complex factory site, a full team effort was utilised to successfully complete Laser Scanning, 3D Revit modelling, Measured Building Surveys, Topographic Flood modelling, Utility Mapping, CCTV surveys, UAV surveys and Void Mapping across the site.
Case Study in Detail
From Initial Scan to Full‑Site Collaboration
In late 2023, Glanville Geospatial were commissioned by Premier Foods to undertake a detailed laser scan and create a highly accurate 3D Revit model of one of the production buildings at their Lifton site. In addition to modelling the main building structure and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing), the team also carried out a drainage survey for external areas. This precision work enabled architects and engineers to collaboratively design and plan an extension to house new production equipment.
Thanks to outstanding communication and collaboration between all parties, Glanville Geospatial exceeded expectations, forging a strong and lasting partnership with Premier Foods at Lifton.
Following the success of the initial project, Glanville Geospatial’s involvement at the Lifton Creamery rapidly expanded. Premier Foods entrusted the team with a variety of additional projects aimed at preparing the site for future construction works, including:
- Extensive scanning and modelling of additional factory buildings to enhance the 3D Revit model
- Development of a comprehensive flood modelling drawing, utilising integrated laser scanning and topographic extraction methods
- Collaboration with Glanville’s CCTV division to deliver precise CCTV and drainage surveys to update existing drawings with the latest information
- Deployment of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology to detect and map subsurface voids in areas prone to ground instability & erosion
- Inspection, measurement and modelling of service conduit tunnel void beneath factory
The Ambrosia factory site presented a complex, dynamic environment, with many moving parts and highly congested zones. The Glanville team embraced the challenges, viewing the project as an invaluable learning opportunity where the team could grow and evolve as this was the largest scale project for many members involved. Through a combination of innovation, problem-solving, strong communication, and meticulous attention to detail, Glanville Geospatial delivered a series of high-quality outputs that they are proud to showcase.
Following the successful delivery of geospatial services at Premier Foods’ Lifton site, Glanville’s expertise has gained widespread recognition within the organisation. As a result, the team has been invited to carry out laser scanning and 3D modelling at another Premier Foods facility.
Working alongside such a historic and beloved company in the heart of Devon has been an honour for Glanville Geospatial. We are proud to have contributed to the future growth of Ambrosia and long may the relationship grow.
